Cortes created this innovative mill for several reasons, one of them is to make competition to its staunch enemy Antonio Serrano, who had created the mill of Axocomulco. Cortes built the sugarmill of Tlaltenango with large tracts of land, arriving to cover part of what is now the city of Cuernavaca and came to encompass from Buena Vista to El Calvario and by 1540, was the most productive Wit of the region.
